What are Thermal Transfer Labels?

Thermal transfer labels require wax, resin, or wax resin printer ribbons. Wax printer ribbons are all purpose and used for most applications. Wax resin printer ribbons are sturdier and will hold much longer through harsh conditions. Resin is used for labels that are in an extremely tough environment. For example, you would use a resin printer ribbon for labels on drum barrels that contain corrosive material or hazardous substances, this way the wording will stay on the label for an extended period of time.

Thermal transfer labels are scratch resistant and will last longer than a year. They are good for product labels, asset tags, inventory labeling, outside labels, and freezer applications. Thermal transfer labels come in many different colors and can be printed on in color. Direct or indirect heat will not damage the label.

Thermal Transfer Label Adhesives

There are several different types of adhesives to be used for different applications. Permanent and all temperature adhesives are the most widely used.

Permanent adhesive service temperature is -4 degrees to 176 degrees Fahrenheit. Application temperature (putting the label on the product) is 32 degrees or higher.

An all temperature adhesive service temperature is 65 degrees to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Application temperature can be as low as -20º Fahrenheit so an all temperature adhesive can be applied in a freezer environment.
